Three phase project included a 9-mile extension of new 115kV overhead power line from the State Park substation in La Pine, Oregon. The ductile iron poles were spaced between 250’ and 300’. The poles were set in 42” diameter by 9’-10’ deep holes and backfilled with 1” rock. The line crosses and parallels an existing BPA (Bonneville Power Administration) 230kV line. Christenson added a new Bay in the MidState-State Park Substation that the existing transmission line fed into. Now the new line feeds into the existing bay in the substation. Service includes trouble shooting, repairing, engineering and fixing code violations. The original scope of work was a replacement of 55,000 high-pressure sodium vapor street lamps with energy effi cient LED lights. Upgrade represented “the single-largest energy-effiient project the city has ever done, by a large margin.” (Michael Armstrong, City of Portland sustainability manager). This 2-year, $18.5 million project culminated in higher energy efficiency for the city and its residents, as well as increased night time visibility. It will be the first large-scale energy facilities in the United States to combine wind, photovoltaic (PV) solar, and battery storage technologies in a single site. Wheatridge is a joint project of PGE and a subsidiary of NextEra Energy Resources. Located just northeast of Lexington in Morrow County, Oregon, Wheatridge’s wind farm generates power using 120 wind turbines manufactured by GE Renewable Energy. The facility uses a mix of 2.3-MW and 2.5-MW machines. • 380 megawatts of emissions-free power • One of the largest solar farms in Oregon • One of the largest battery storage facilities in the nation • 100,000 homes powered Christenson’s scope of work included wiring for 120 towers and installing FAA lights. Towers are 90 meters (295 ft) and the turbine blades are 116 meters (380 ft) in diameter. The $2.4 million, 50-megawatt solar and 30-megawatt battery facilities will be completed by the end of 2021. This new facility will play an important role in achieving PGE’s established company wide goal of net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2040. The three additions, totaling about 13,000 SF, included six new classrooms, a new career technical center and music room, and an expansion to the administrative offices. Christenson completed Phase I that consisted of building out a new electrical room, providing a 480Vol,1000 amp main distribution service and built out of the main distribution switchboard resulting in a complete infrastructure upgrade. Also installed secondary side for 150 KVA and 122.5 KVA transformer with installed panels. We did all the secondary and primary underground conduits that went into the building and exterior of the building. Demolished an existing generator and generator system, including the automatic transfer switch. Phase II was responsible for providing the new generator. We did a shutdown of the existing facility where we de-energize the existing service and re-energized the new service with Portland General Electric. Building is mixed occupancy and used to support a manufacturing and fabricating curriculum. Also contains a manufacturing space, classrooms, administration suite, meeting rooms and general purpose storage room. Full design build. Christenson collaborated with the customer to tailor a suitable solution for their space and the intended use. Custom posts with lifted cable trays were built to accommodate mobile equipment. The design can adapt to an array of international machinery. During the construction duration, the 2nd floor of the PCC Bookstore remained fully occupied, when it was time to do the 1st floor, PCC shutdown the retail area to allow to perform our scope.
